Out of Town... Not Out of Your Mind
Vacation Observations and a Few Suggestions for Guys Trippin’
By Guest Blogger, Jim Clark
You're finally going to get that vacation or break from work you have been thinking about all year long. What do you pack for a four day weekend to Miami or for a week in California? You do have to do a little planning, and even though people think you just go with it and see what happens… you know better.
Start with your planning by asking yourself a few questions. Are you going "solo" or hanging out with friends? This is important because your friends already know you, and you don’t have to impress them. But if you are going “solo” and looking for some action or attention you will want to be ready at all times. You will want to look good and smell even better. Be sure to pack cologne, tooth brush and paste, hair grooming items (hair gel, shampoo, conditioner, trimmers, etc.), razor and sunscreen. Plus, if you have your “game on” as a player, you will need to be safe as well by packing protection... not a gun or knife, but a fun selection of condoms. The Trojan’s “Fire and Ice” is more ice than fire to me but still enjoyable for you and your partner. There are all kinds of crazy condoms out there: scented, flavored, colored, and even glow in the dark so you can use the “force” and love it.
Another question is “How Many Days Will I Be Gone?”. This will make it easy for you to pack your basic needs like underwear, socks, shoes, belts, etc. I usually add a couple of extra pairs of each just in case of emergencies like a late night swim. Plus, a lot of the little things are cheaper at home than in the hotel gift shop, so a little pre-thought can save you money.
How much luggage should I take? If you are driving this is not a big concern because you can always throw stuff in the car. If you are flying, an extra bag may cost you money. Southwest Airlines lets you have two pieces of luggage and your carry-on without additional fees. I like that. If you have a computer backpack as your carry-on like I travel with, you will have a little extra room. Also, try to pack luggage in an organized fashion with space to bring stuff back home from your trip... phone numbers, souvenirs, scented gifts, and anything that will fit.
What else do I need? Am I forgetting anything? Well maybe one thing... remember to be yourself and have fun. Don’t be an ass when you are out of town. Treat the people who are taking care of you the way you would want to be treated yourself. Sure it’s a simple concept. Make someone smile, have them wonder “Who Was That Guy?” and maybe you’ll make even more friends on this small earth.
