Maximize your money

Last weekend I was at an event that required me to wear a cocktail dress. If you know me, you know that I absolutely must go shopping before every important event I attend. But, with my new job and all my new responsibilities, I am now constantly going to social and work related events. As you can imagine, my shopping has to be done very carefully, and I can only buy items that make sense, things that I can wear again for other occasions.

The picture in here shows my dress - Can you guess how much money I spent on the whole outfit? $100. Yes, I got a new dress, new shoes, earrings, and braceletes for that amount of money. The best thing about is that everything I got I can wear again and combine for other uses. The dress can be used with a belt to make it look different, the shoes can complete a casual jeans outfit, or be used for a night of partying. Earrings are very boho chic, so I'll be using them with beach looks (shorts and sandals) and the braceletes are colorful and can also be used for boho chic looks.

You still need to be careful and dont forget that you get what you pay for. BUT that doesn't mean you can't find good bargains, take extra care of your clothes so they last you forever, and learn how to combine items so you always have a new outfit to wear. Dont forget hair and makeup play a very important part too. Learn how to maximize your dollar and you may even have some money left to buy me a drink next time I see you... lol . Happy shopping! : )

New obsession - Polyvore!

I have found a new way to spend some of my free time.... Polyvore : ) The website that allows you to create fashion looks that you can later "pin", post on Facebook, or your blog! I'll be posting more options depending on trends and new styles. Take a look at my two new looks from this morning - Spring is here; fresh and perfect for a day under the sun, and Dinner with the parents; a perfect look to meet the in-laws for brunch.

What do you think? Would you use Polyvore?

Hello Gorgeous 2012!

As I'm writing this blog, I'm reminiscing of what 2011 held for me.  It started a little boring, but it sure ended with a bang!  New job, new city to live in - basically, a new life.  I took a minute to peek at last year's resolutions and I'm happy to realize I accomplish most of them.  I went to New York, went to San Diego, I ate more fish, I’ve already started working on new projects with my business partner and I managed to move during the Christmas break.  Yeah, it feels good....

How about you?  Have you done your 2012 resolutions list?  I haven't done mine yet, I just today finally got a chance to sit and write - moving its hard!  The good thing? I have a whole new city to blog about (Destin, FL) so, look for Wear in Destin soon.  I'm thinking my resolution list will include make new friends here, finding unique cool places to blog about, learning how to fish and just plain enjoying life.

I hope this year brings your much love and happiness.  Happy 2012!

Clutter no More.

Did you know that we use 20% of the clothes in our closet 80% of the time?  I think the main reason this happens is because for most of us, our closets are a little bit of a mess. Things get pushed to the back, out of sight and reach, and forgotten. I’m going to share a couple of simple suggestions I use to keep my closet organized and clutter-free. The key to achieving this? Keep it in sight, between reach, and organized. Simple enough, eh?

Now that the weather changes are approaching this is a great time to get your closet in shape. Start by taking a good look at your clothes. Donate what you know you will never use again or what doesn’t fit anymore (unless you can take it to the taylor and make it work). Divide your clothes into the following 3 main categories – work, casual, and formal. I keep all my winter clothes together at the back of the closet because I know Im only going to use them a couple weeks per year. When it’s time to wear them, I just move them to the front so they are accessible. Keep your work clothes separated from your weekend and party clothes, this will help you find what to wear quicker and get to your destination on time!

After you have divided winter clothes and regular clothes into the three main categories, it’s time to decide how to sort – by piece of by color. I sort mine by pieces - all the work pants together, all the work dresses together etc. Some people like to sort by color, which is great when you want to get really creative at pairing pieces. I keep my formal dresses together at the back of the closet along with my coats. The idea is to be able to reach your everyday clothes easier and quicker.

Same thing goes for shoes. Divide them in categories. Clear plastic bins are very good to have around when your space is limited and you need to stack things together. Use shoe hangers to maximize space and visibility.

Use the top shelves for jeans, purses and hats. Fold your jeans and put them in the upper shelves. Invest in a hat box; I use mine to keep winter hats, scarfs, gloves.  The rest of the available space I use to store my purses and totes. Keep all your belts together in a hanger made for them.

Hope these simple tips help you get your closet in order... ahhh if only it was that easy with my life.....  lol

Colors of the Fall

Last week fellow blogger Jim Clark shared his view on the Fall trends for guys.  This week its my turn to give you an up-to-date report on what to wear for this wonderful season.

Let’s begin - From what I’ve seen, the Fall/Winter trends this year are going to be much more different than years past. This season is being defined by color, neon colors even! No more black/brown/camel/gray only combinations (though I still love the Orange/Gray combo). The season is all about Mod trends, bright colors, tailored clothing - everything that is classy and elegant. One of the things that I noticed (and I love!) is the combination of Mod with nautical elements. This is the best combination I’ve seen all year. I personally love Mod trends and do I own more than a few nautical dresses and pants. So, I’m in heaven pretty much. Time to wear those wide legged pants with my nautical trench and bright scarfs. Think of using bright reds and blues as a way to add color to your outfit and as part of the bright color trend for Fall. You will be both elegant and in style.

While colors are unusually bright, everything else is going back to basics. Tailored pants with a suit feel, dresses that can be used for a “day to night” affair, tube skirts, high heeled pumps, and colorful wedges. Pieces that you already have in your closet and call the “classics.” They give you that effortless and sophisticated look. In order to give your classics the modern Fall 2011 feel, don’t be afraid and add the neons. A neon green cuff or a blue clutch can do wonders to an all black outfit without making you look like that 80’s girl you used to be. One thing that is a must for the season? Capes! I’ve seen them all over magazines and stores - even here in Ocala. To achieve the Mod look, add a black cape style coat, big sunglasses and give it a twist with a bright neon clutch. You are sure to capture looks!

There you have it, now its time to go to your closet and look around to find out how to mix and match your work suit pants and blouses with that Missoni scarf and clutch you got at Target a couple of weeks ago - well, at least thats what Im doing...  Happy pairings, you sexy thing!
